New Stewardship Model Launched in Charleston, Richmond, Chicago, and San Diego

Several parishes across the country are piloting With All Your Heart/Con Todo Nuestro Corazon, an exciting, new bilingual stewardship and discipleship model informed by decades of service to the Church and pioneered by Greater Mission.

Inspired by the Great Commandment, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind,” the model helps parishes invite their members to live the radical generosity of self to which the Gospels call us. The model invites participants to grow in love of God and neighbor through a cycle of four “hearts”—prayer, service to others, sharing their financial resources, and witnessing to others.

The model is uniquely adapted for use in Spanish-speaking and bilingual parishes, with a focus on community running throughout the program that aims to unify parishes.

St. Benedict Catholic Church near Charleston, South Carolina, was the first parish to pilot the program in 2013. The model did not merely enable the parish to raise funds to pay down debt on their new church and multipurpose building. It also opened doors to spiritual growth for many parishioners, building a spirit of active participation and faithful generosity.

As Dominique Lopez, Stewardship and Outreach Coordinator for the parish, commented, “Words cannot describe how the With All Your Heart model transformed me as a follower of Jesus Christ. It has been a moving experience – seeing St. Benedict Church take a step in faith and seeing parishioners change over the course of this journey. With All Your Heart was not a one-time event but will continue to change us and challenge us to be the disciples that Christ called us to be.”

The model is shaped around the truth that “Discussions of money in Catholic parishes should not center on meeting basic organizational needs, but rather on spiritual growth and personal and world transformation,” as Notre Dame’s Institute for Church Life stated in Unleashing Catholic Generosity, the analysis of Catholic giving it published in 2013.

Sacred Heart in Richmond, Virginia, St. Pius V in Chicago, Illinois, and Our Lady of the Angels in San Diego, California, are currently piloting the model, as well, and it is already bearing fruit in their communities. One parishioner at Sacred Heart, a heavily Hispanic parish, has described the model as “nos regala,” or our hope, and another mentioned that he is “excited about the potential, bringing God’s kingdom.”
