St. Mary of the Annunciation in Ladysmith, Virginia, recently completed a Feasibility Study to address some critical needs of the parish which include a new roof on the church, updated meeting space and a new food pantry to better serve food insecurity in Caroline County. Initial discussions for a campaign began in the summer of 2022 to address the leaking roof and those conversations resulted in addressing several additional projects that will benefit this growing parish.
In August of 2022, after extensive planning and consultation with architects, St. Mary’s received approval from the Diocesan Building Committee to proceed with the project. In preparation for the campaign, the parish along with Fr. Alex embarked on a series of Town Hall events to discuss the projects and inform them about some of the costs associated with this initiative.
A project of this scope for St. Mary of the Annunciation is a large undertaking considering it is a small rural parish of just over 300 families. Engagement in the feasibility study process was excellent and Greater Mission received feedback from more than fifty families. More than 90% of families approached during the feasibility study said that they were going to support the campaign with a financial gift and an equal number indicated that they would be willing to volunteer. This speaks to the tremendous mission spirit of the parish and how invested they are in creating a vibrant faith community.
