Tom Sonni founded Greater Mission in 2006 so that he might expand his life’s work, empowering the Church to live and share the greatest mission ever conceived: To know Jesus Christ and make Him known. Tom brings more than twenty-five years of experience designing stewardship models and managing capital campaigns along with years of experience in strategic planning, constituent research, annual appeals, major gifts, and legacy giving. Tom has guided efforts that have raised over $400 million for the Church. His service has strengthened the Arch/Dioceses of Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Lansing, Miami, Orlando, Palm Beach, Providence, Richmond, St. Petersburg, and Venice, among others. He led the creative design of With All Your Heart – a dynamic new mission advancement model that integrates spiritual formation and lifting parish communities to new levels of generosity to sustain and expand mission and ministry. Before founding Greater Mission, Tom served as the executive leader of diocesan-wide development and stewardship programming in the Diocese of Harrisburg and the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Tom has been a thought leader in the Church on matters of discipleship, stewardship and development, serving on the Board of the International Catholic Stewardship Council. In addition to contributing articles to professional journals, Tom has frequently spoken at national and regional conferences. He also served on the board of Christlife, an international Catholic evangelization ministry. Tom and his wife Sharon have been married for 34 years and live in Ellicott City, Maryland, where they raised two daughters who both also graduated from Pennsylvania State University. Tom collaborated with Cardinal William H. Keeler in writing a book on Eucharist testimonials entitled Real People Real Presence, founded an ecumenical prayer ministry, brought the Cornerstone parish retreat program to the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and actively leads a parish men’s group. Prior to committing to full-time work in the Church over twenty-five years ago, Tom led The Business Support Group, a business development firm, and served as the co-publisher of the Central Penn Business Journal. Greater Mission has developed into a leading stewardship and development firm that exclusively serves the Church throughout the country.

Through 39 years of development, strategic planning, and leadership experience, Tony has raised over $250 million for dioceses, several colleges and universities, Catholic high schools, hospitals, and social service agencies. Previously, he served as Executive Director of Stewardship and Development for the Diocese of Providence, RI, for 18 years, directing the Catholic Charity Fund, the second oldest diocesan annual appeal in the United States, along with the Diocesan Stewardship program, the Catholic Foundation of Rhode Island, and the Anchor of Hope Scholarship program. During his tenure, the Diocese of Providence Stewardship & Development Office received over 25 awards for excellence for their annual appeal, stewardship, planned giving and foundation programs. He has also served as an Executive Director for Community Counseling Service Co., Inc. and has directed major capital campaigns in New York, Maine, and Rhode Island. Tony is a former board member of International Catholic Stewardship Council (ICSC), the Rhode Island Chapter of NSFRE (National Society of Fund-Raising Executives—now AFP) and District 1 (New England) of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He was the Conference Program Chair for the 2004 ICSC Conference, is a faculty member of the ICSC Winter and Summer Institute, and the Institute Coordinator for the ICSC Institute for Professional Development. He is a frequent speaker at ICSC International Conferences and has contributed several articles to professional journals including “Strategic Planning for Diocesan Stewardship & Development Offices” in Resource, the ICSC journal. In 2011, Tony was awarded the Bishop William G. Connare Award by the ICSC. The Connare Award is a lifetime achievement award and is the highest award given by ICSC to a diocesan development professional. Tony holds a B.A. and an M.A. from Providence College and is the proud father of two adult children who both work in the development profession. Tony lives in Johnston, Rhode Island, and is an active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish. He served his previous parish as Parish Council President, CYO Basketball Coordinator and Coach, and chair of a parish capital campaign that outstripped its goal.

For more than twenty-five years, Joe Citro has served the Catholic Church in a variety of leadership positions. His expertise in a variety of fund development strategies has enabled numerous dioceses, parishes, and schools to expand their ministries and help those they serve encounter Christ more deeply.

He offers clients seasoned counsel from his experience achieving results in capital campaigns, major gift efforts, planned giving strategies, annual appeals, proposal writing, strategic planning, and the development of diocesan foundations. Serving as the Director of Stewardship and Development for the Diocese of St. Petersburg and the first Executive Director of their new Catholic Foundation, Joe developed the foundation into a strong organization with $30 million under management. During his three-year tenure as Executive Director, Joe increased the Diocese of Venice Catholic Community Foundation’s funds under management 500%.

As Assistant Executive Director, Chief Operations Officer, and Foundation Executive Director with Catholic Charities offices in the Dioceses of Paterson and St. Petersburg, Joe managed agency operations, fund raising, board relations, and new program development.

Joe holds a Master’s in Social Work and taught in the Graduate School of Social Services at Catholic University. He writes Viviendo la Mision de Cristo/Living Christ’s Mission, the only national bilingual Stewardship blog in Spanish.

Donna has 35 years of Development experience including over 20 years serving the Catholic Church. She is a native of Connecticut, and served in senior management positions with two religious orders: the Religious of the Sacred of Mary in New York and the Sisters of Mercy in Connecticut as a college advancement officer responsible for annual, capital and endowment fundraising campaigns. Her Diocesan and parish experience includes distinguished service as the Executive Director of Development for the Diocese of Bridgeport, CT, where, as a member of the Bishop’s senior leadership team. She managed the Annual Bishop’s Appeal and a comprehensive major gifts program, which, resulted in the highest average annual fund gift of all dioceses nationwide.

In 2007, Donna and her family relocated to Phoenix, AZ where she served as the President and CEO of the Catholic Community Foundation, the ninth largest Catholic foundation in the United States with assets of $50 million and 300 funds under management for the benefit of 93 parishes, 24 missions and 35 Catholic Schools. Her most recent position before joining Greater Mission was with Catholic Education Arizona, where, as President and CEO she managed a comprehensive annual scholarship campaign of $18 million in gifts from corporations and individuals benefitting 6,000 K-12 students at Catholic schools in Arizona.

Donna is an active, high profile volunteer, having served on over 11 Boards of Directors since relocating to Phoenix. She is well known in the community as a mentor to many young development professionals and has presented at numerous fundraising and board development conferences. She received a 4 year scholarship to Boston University from which she received a Bachelor of Science degree. In addition, she is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s prestigious Executive Leadership program: Strategic Perspectives in Non- Profit Management. Donna resides in Scottsdale, AZ and is a parishioner at Our Lady of Joy parish in Carefree, AZ. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and visiting Mexico.

Frank Byrne has dedicated his professional career and personal volunteer efforts to advancing philanthropy in its broadest sense. Frank launched his development career in Roanoke, Virginia, and has since led more than 140 capital and major gift campaigns for religious, human service, historical, and educational clients.

Known for his high energy, Frank does not merely deliver on pre-determined goals and objectives; his approach to organizational sustainability ensures that communications, cultivation, and marketing benefit an institution long after a campaign is over.

After he was selected for Leadership Hampton Roads, Frank served as the association’s first alumni president and later served on the steering committee at Leadership Montgomery. Frank is a graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business and Marshall University’s W. Page Pitt School of Journalism. He has continuously advanced his practical education through programs at the Grantsmanship Institute, Burgundy Group, and Leadership Institute.

Johnny Day is an experienced fundraiser, planner, and strategist. He has more than 26 years of executive management experience including positions as chief development officer and chief executive officer for several organizations. Johnny’s commitment to creating strong ministerial relationships, vision, and a solid approach to finding new and fresh options is seen both in his list of professional engagements and his volunteer work with churches.

He served as part of Greater Mission’s team serving 10 Parish’s within the Catholic Diocese of Richmond Living Our Mission Campaign. As a team, Greater Mission raised over 90 million dollars. He approaches each client with a unique vision, leveraging the clients’ mission and vision to develop programs that are successful and sustainable.

Johnny’s creative approach is also down to earth using proven time-tested techniques. He is known for creating a strategy that reflects the client’s needs, and yet is flexible to the current giving environment. His team-focused ensure that projects move forward and that clients feel supported, informed, and engaged.

Johnny also serves as a Minister of Music for New Fellowship Ministries and has a BS degree from Western Carolina University.

Nancy Koons has over 25 years of experience working in the Catholic Church in the areas of nonprofit management, stewardship, fund development and organizational development.  Her most recent role is her five-year career with Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle. Focused on mission, she brought the agency (founded in 1932) from the verge of closing its doors to tripling its fundraising revenue, reducing administrative costs by 40%, and increasing the number of people served by nearly 50%.

Nancy served the Amarillo Diocese as the Director of Development and Stewardship for over 15 years, substantially increasing revenue through the annual appeal, grant acquisition, planned giving efforts and two diocesan capital campaigns.  She revamped the Catholic Foundation of the Texas Panhandle, and conducted a diocesan-wide study of the needs of the priestly ministry and of the laity with the Center for Applied Research of the Apostolate (CARA) – a project entirely grant funded.  Nancy served as coordinator of the 75th Jubilee Year of the Diocese of Amarillo, culminating in the 2002 Eucharistic Congress with over 6,000 in attendance.  Her duties also included serving two years as the chair of the Diocesan Finance Council Budget Committee and three years as the Director for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

While serving in the Diocese of Amarillo, Nancy served on the Board of Governors of Catholic Church Extension Society and the Board of the Conference for Pastoral Planning and Council Development.  She also served on the Planning Committee for CCHD’s 25th Anniversary gathering in Chicago and the 2001 Conference Planning Committee for the International Catholic Stewardship Council.  Additionally, Nancy was appointed to the Leadership Training Team of the National Council of Catholic Women, serving six years, conducting 3-day workshops on organizational development for diocesan organizations throughout the country.

Nancy is originally from Chicago and is a life-long (and very happy) Cubs fan.  “What excites me about coming to Greater Mission is that the focus is on advancing mission; when your focus is mission, all things are possible!”

Ethan directs highly successful campaigns in communities spanning the socio-economic spectrum and plays a key role in the development, marketing, and implementation of our pioneering Latino stewardship programs (With All Your Heart / Con Todo Nuestro Corazón).

Ethan graduated summa cum laude from the Liberal Arts Honors Program at Providence College, where he double majored in history (Latin American concentration) and Spanish. He takes great pride in having the opportunity to assist first generation American citizens make investments in the Church and other nonprofits that have such a significant positive impact on society.

Over the past decade and a half, John French has empowered clients and inspired donors to carry the Gospel into the world so that it might transform the lives of countless people. His success securing capital for the nation’s largest Catholic Radio Network supported the ministries of Church leaders and helped keep Catholic programming on the dial in markets including Chicago, Minneapolis, Joliet and Green Bay. In Chicago, John secured sponsorships that helped enable Rev. Robert Barron’s share his sacred scripture homily broadcasts on Relevant Radio, and his work in Washington, D.C., helped strengthen the Archdiocese’s Catholic Education Tuition Assistance program, and the Cardinal’s Appeal. John has also counseled Catholic executives and families on their implementation of wealth accumulation strategies from the world’s most admired estate planning/life insurance company.

Joe Citro is committed to building visionary strategies and has worked as a nonprofit professional for 5 years with the Headquarters office of Lambda Chi Alpha International Fraternity. He served in a variety of roles which include being an Educational Leadership Consultant, Special Advisor to the CEO and Chief of Executive Affairs. He managed over 75 of 196 subsidiaries across the country. Citro has consulted with over 1,000 people and conducted over 250 presentations discussing strategic planning, program design, operations and board affairs. Citro also designed a program and national partnership with Feeding America which has raised over 9.5 million pounds of food for those in need since Fall of 2013 and has assisted in the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.

A dedicated Catholic, Mr .Citro has also been involved in serving the Church as a member of the Indianapolis Archdiocesan Stewardship Education Commission, the Chair of the Stewardship Commission at St. Luke Parish, a Pastoral Council member at St. Luke Parish in Indianapolis, IN. and a member of the Northeast Catholic Community Deanery Cohort on Young Adults for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.  He was recently invited to speak at the 2015 National Catholic Youth Conference.

Citro joined Greater Mission in 2016. He received a degree in Communications from Florida Southern College and received his graduate certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership from Indiana University. He has a continued passion to make a lasting impact in this world and community.

Kristin joined Greater Mission in October 2016 to more closely align her faith with her passion for her faith with her legal and accounting background.   Kristin practiced law for over twenty years as a state assistant attorney general and corporate counsel before bringing her passion for the Lord to advance the mission of the Catholic Church.

A devout Catholic, Kristin has been involved in serving the Church as a volunteer at St. Luke’s N.E.W. Life Center in Flint, Michigan, a weekly Eucharistic Adorer at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Davison, Michigan and a volunteer at Powers Catholic High School in Flint, Michigan where her children attend.  Kristin and her family attend Holy Family Church in Grand Blanc, Michigan.  Kristin enjoys attending her children’s marching band performances, watching her daughter pitch softball and her son play tennis.   Kristin earned her degree in Accounting from Michigan State University and law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Paula’s talents and perseverance with the missions God has entrusted to her, have well prepared her to make valuable contributions to the Dioceses and Parishes served by Greater Mission. Educationally, Paula has received a B.A. in Sacred Theology & Philosophy from Southern Catholic College, Dawsonville, GA, and is currently working toward a Licentiate Degree in Religious Sciences from the University of Anahuac, Mexico City.

Born in Venezuela to Colombian parents, and raised from childhood in New York, Paula is fully bilingual and bicultural. She has used those skills to effectively serve a number of diverse communities. At Holy Family Parish in Marietta, Georgia, Paula was Director of Religious Education, developing faith formation programs for a multicultural community composed of Anglos, Hispanics and Portuguese. Also, for eight years she was the Director of Solidarity International Missionary Group, coordinating missions to El Salvador, Colombia and Peru, for the Youth and Young Adult Hispanic Ministry in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Her leadership positions in the Archdiocese of Atlanta include membership on the Archdiocesan Liturgy Committee, and the Hispanic Pastoral Council of Youth and Young Adults of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Additionally, Paula worked as a legal assistant to an immigration lawyer, which deepened her knowledge and understanding of migrant communities.

An active member of St. Catherine Parish, Paula now resides in Georgia with her husband and two children.

For over ten years, Ryan has been involved in Catholic non-profits focused around youth ministry and vocations. Ryan is passionate about using his own gifts and talents to support the Church. A desire to invite others into financial support of the Church is what drew Ryan to the work of Greater Mission.

Originally from southern California, Ryan worked in a variety of fields before discovering a passion for evangelization and ministry. Ryan spent three years as a missionary, sharing the Gospel with teens across the country and inviting them into a relationship with God. After serving as a missionary, Ryan moved to working in administration and promotion for nonprofit ministries.

Ryan and his wife, Catherine, now live in Cincinnati, OH and are expecting their first baby in December 2016. Ryan is an active parishioner at Guardian Angels Parish.

Ryan Petrillo is driven to help clients reach financial peace through successful capital campaigning. Petrillo joined Greater Mission in 2016 after serving in college campus ministry with the Brotherhood of Hope at undergraduate universities around the US. For the past two years he has found success in reaching millennials through his involvement as a Mission Leader at Northeastern University and the Colleges of the Fenway in Boston, MA. As an undergraduate, he served as the President of the Catholic Student Union at Florida State University and led 400 active students in community engagement initiatives.

Additionally, Mr. Petrillo also has a great love for entrepreneurship that was sparked through his involvement in family business (Aveda – TSP Companies). At Aveda, he worked as a retail advisor, and supervised approximately 250 daily appointments for salon / spa treatments. In family business, Petrillo acquired a breadth of knowledge client management, retail sales, and innovative strategies to provide world-class customer service.

Petrillo received his degree in Business Administration from Florida State University and graduated from the Jim Moran School for Global Entrepreneurship with high distinction. He is committed to offering his love for entrepreneurship to support the mission of the Catholic Church and those in need.

Giovanna “G” Genuino is an operations professional with over 15 years progressive experience as a business partner to C-Suite executives in both entrepreneurial and corporate environments. Giovanna brings to Greater Mission her background in human resources, accounting, and meeting/event planning and project management.

Giovanna has an MBA from Fordham University and is an Army veteran. Giovanna has worked in Wall Street’s NYSE Euronext, Horseshoe Casino and Adashi Systems LLC.
