“Brothers and sisters, owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another…love is the fulfillment of the law.” (Rom 13:8-10)

St. Paul makes loving one another a debt that we owe. A pastor once gave a homily I hope to never forget on this theme. Too often, we start with the disposition that the world owes us love – including those closest to us. The opposite is our law in the Christian life. This is my proper starting place. I owe you Love. I even had bracelets made with this on it as a reminder to try and live it… IOU Love. Every encounter carries Christ if self-forgetting, other-focused love is our first move.
