“As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, ‘Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”
This Sunday’s Gospel is the beloved passage of Jesus calling his first disciples. We know that the invitation that started by the Sea of Galilee is also meant for you and me. Maybe we haven’t heard the invitation yet for ourselves – or maybe it has been awhile since we have quieted ourselves enough to hear God’s gentle call on our hearts. Jesus is saying to you now, Come and follow me. At once, leave your old ways. Can we quiet ourselves enough to hear the call to live the adventurous life of a disciple of Jesus with Jesus leading every step. The call comes new to us each day if we have ears to hear. Will we follow at once, again and again?
Petition:
That we may follow Jesus and become his disciples at once….
